About

Sawubona friends.  I am honored that you stopped by. This presence has been a long time coming, having spent many years in the process, waiting for birth. I am both proud and humbled. Proud of the courage to take a step forward, after being still and silent. Humbled that my work is being seen and shared, and ever hopeful that it stirs creativity, discussion, and promise.

I am a writer, editor, friend, empath, lawyer, mother, activist, wife, vegan, daughter, believer, dreamer, procrastinator, lover, visionary, and endless wine connoisseur. And not at all in that order. I love to write. Period. I love to create stories that allow your mind to travel, as much as it allowed mine to create. The journey is a beautiful one. I love to help people who cannot help themselves, whether it be through discussions, encouragement, clothing, or food. I believe that sometimes, all someone really needs is that small gesture, just to get them on track again. I despise injustice. I cannot tolerate discrimination of any kind. That is all you really need to know about me, though some background might be helpful. It's not a pretty background, but it's mine, and it's made me who and what I am today. So, I no longer run from it. Born in an impoverished town, to an impoverished mother, I never appreciated just how low we registered on the poverty scale. Ignorance is definitely a blissful state, so long as your belly isn't grumbling. Hand-me-downs, and food deliveries from kind-hearted strangers were received with gratitude. I was blessed with people who stretched out their hands, and guided me toward a more stable and opportune life I live today. Along with my generous, gold-hearted spouse, 3 children, and 3 dogs, we have a solid roof overhead, feet that move us, and kind hearts beating in our chests. Half of us are vegan, but all of us have a strong love for our environment and overall well-being for the planet. We are rock-star recyclers, re-users, and go green as much as humanly possible. Wine is a staple. It is so much a staple that we reconstructed our dining room to be a wine room. When I am not sampling wine, I can be found cheering on at least 1 child on the volleyball court. At times, I sit with my one and only true love of writing. I would love to hear from you. Everyone is welcome. @writteninwine on Twitter and IG

I encourage you to pursue what magnifies your heart. xo, ella

Sawubona (sow-BOH-nah) is a South African greeting.  It translates to "I see you." A fitting response is Ngikhona (GEE-kah-nah), meaning "I am here." I'm unaware of a  warmer interaction in existence.
